The Commonwealth of Dominica International Maritime Act of 2000 (IMA 2000)
established the high standards to which our Flag of Responsibility holds
itself. Drafted with the help of both seasoned regulatory leaders and
private-sector industry professionals, the Act and the Regulations that
support it accomplish the dual objectives of preserving safety and promoting
cost-effectiveness. IMA 2000 gives shipowners the tools they need to successfully
operate their vessels and manage their crews.
Mortgage Recordation
- Mortgages are recognized by the international banking community. IMA
2000's mortgage tacking provision simplifies the mortgage recordation
process. Expeditious and accurate mortgage service is available 24 hours
a day, seven days a week to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Registration
and Documentation - IMA 2000 was designed to improve on the standard
licensing and certification process. All registration forms and guidelines
are available for download from our website. Vessel Ownership - A company
formed under another jurisdiction may register as a Foreign Maritime
Entity in Dominica for the purpose of registering its vessels under
the Dominica flag. Alternatively, a company may incorporate in Dominica
as an International Business Corporation. Vessels may also be owned
by a Dominica domestic corporation, citizen, or national. All registered
vessels have as their "home port" either Roseau or Portsmouth.
Vessel Eligibility
and Survey Requirements - With an emphasis on company ISM, port
State Control and operational performance records, we look to class
society inspections as an efficient alternative to standard annual flag
state inspections. Our class societies include: American Bureau of Shipping,
Det Norske Veritas, Lloyds' Register of Shipping, Germanischer Lloyd,
Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, Polish Registry of Shipping, Korean Registry of
Shipping and Bureau Veritas. We work closely with the societies to ensure
good feedback and oversight.
